Putting ME First

Hey guys!  So, Operation: Solo Weekend is a success!  I had an awesome night on Thursday, as well as a great day yesterday- so I’m that’s two for two :D   My roommate and I went out with some friends on Thursday night, since we’ve barely been out at all since we’ve been here- and had such a blast!  She struggled out of bed for her early flight- while I slept leisurely :D

I ate breakfast while watching The Office from the previous night (Thank you Hulu!)

My day was spent on a Target Mission!!  It was pretty intense…The only one I’ve been to here was by Zip Car with my roommate and our moms’, so I found one that was accessible by Public Transportation.  Once I got off the T, it was about a 15 minute walk, which was a little chilly!!  Once I got there…I was in heaven!!  Aw, just to walk in to that familiar Target-scent of popcorn and stale pizza :D !!  I loved it.  I had to be aware of my carrying capacity as I chose my items- so I ended up getting a perfect 3-bag amount, nothing too heavy!

On the way back, my breakfast and AM snack were long-since forgotten…and I was starving!  As much as I wanted to wait until I got home, to save money and stuff…I knew it would bode much better for my entire day if I just stopped and ate somewhere.  I saw a Shaw’s (regular grocery store), and ordered a turkey wrap from their deli counter.  While I knew I could make the same thing at home, just stopping to eat when I was hungry kept me on my normal/preferred eating schedule and refueled me for the rest of the trip home!  I guess I just wanted to emphasize the importance of putting yourself first, even if it meant stopping at a random grocery store and eating my wrap on a bench by myself :D

Dinner was a random mix: salad, turkey meatballs, salsa, hummus, broccoli and Pita chips.

I took advantage of my night in by studying for Anatomy!!!  I have a lab + lecture test next week :O  So with the exception of small food and ice cream breaks, I will be studying hardcore this weekend!  Luckily it’s a downpour outside so no need to fret about being cooped up.

I hope the weather is good where you are, all my friends back home keep texting me and complaining of “how hot is is here!!!”  BLAH BLAH cry me a river… ;D  Luckily I’m still in the newly-transplanted phase and loving the rainy accompaniment to Fall!  Have a great weekend friends.

I like your salad – it looks really texturally satisfying! You are SO on point with the Target smell! It’s like, I could probably go into any Target with a blindfold on and know exactly where I was. Right?

Looks like you’re settling into Boston well, my dear. Let’s definitely arrange a meet-up when I return to MA in December! We can take some shopping trips in a CAR and you won’t have to schlep everything on the T.

Haha, my sister and I went to target the other day and were commenting on how much we loved the smell when you first walk in. It’s like home to me!

  21. missyrayn Says:

Shaws is a great grocery store. I’m glad you found Target. I thought about you in the rain yesterday when I had to be in Boston for work.

  22. ksgoodeats Says:

Maybe it’s an only child thing but without my ‘me’ days, I’d be a super big biotch.

Ew to the Target scent but you’re dead on! There’s actually one by me that doesn’t smell like that and my nose thanks me every time I go to that one.

G’luck studying!! I’ll be Miss Studious with you :)

  23. A@ Please Don't Eat Me! Says:

lol about the Target smell.. im glad you found it!! was it the one in Andrew Square? im kinda scared to go there.. ; )

try to find a stop and shop instead- its much cheaper than shaws.. we have three shaws near me, and i find that S&S is MUCH less money.. it was kinda cute to see you describe Shaws and then Homegirl talk about it too.. i guess we take for granted what is local to us.. hello Dunkin Donuts!

  24. luckytastebuds Says:

Oh Car….I am one of those people who complain all the time about crappy rainy fall weather in Chicago, but it’s so refreshing to hear from someone who appreciates it! :) Thanks for the reminder and different perspective.

I totally agree that you should put yourself and your tummy first, even if it means eating alone. In fact, I enjoy that alone time quite a lot! It’s peaceful and relaxing…just you and your food. :)

Glad you’re having a wonderful weekend hun!!
